Help & FAQ
How Aetherbound works, how to control it on your device, what to do when something goes wrong, and what's coming next.
Getting started
What is Aetherbound?
You describe a place or a game in a sentence, and Aetherbound builds it as a 3D scene you can look around and walk through, on your phone, in a Cardboard-style viewer, in a VR headset, or in a normal browser. Everything you see is AI-generated, and it says so on screen.
How do I make my first world or game?
What is the first-time setup?
The first time you enter, a short setup asks how you'll play and checks it really works:
- Choose how you'll control it (touch, gamepad, keyboard and mouse, another device, or camera gestures).
- Test it. You'll be asked to press a key, tap, or move a stick, and it confirms only when it actually receives that.
- You'll see “You're all set up” with a short how-to-play.
- On a phone in magic-window mode, you can also fine-tune the view (which way is “front” and, for a Cardboard viewer, the lens warp).
Your choices are saved to your account. To change them later, tap the ⚙ icon in the top-right while you're in a world.
Can I play with a friend? Can I share a world?
Yes. On the enter screen, choose Play with a friend: one person hosts a room and shares the 5-letter code, the other joins with it. Worlds you make can also be shared as a link from the same screen.
Why do the buttons on screen disappear?
To keep the view clear, everything overlaying the world (the score, the controls hint, the ⚙ buttons, Reduce motion, the Cardboard button) fades after a few seconds of no input. Touch the screen, move the mouse, or press a key and it all comes back. The small “AI-generated” label always stays visible.
Controls
On a phone or tablet
- Look: turn your phone, or drag the screen. Hold it in landscape.
- Move: with a paired keyboard or gamepad, or another device (see below). In a Cardboard viewer you can also sweep a hand in front of the rear camera.
- Interact: tap the screen.
- Cardboard viewer: tap View in Cardboard (bottom-right) to split the view for the lenses, then use the ⚙ to adjust lens warp.
When you walk with a keyboard or gamepad, “forward” is the way you're looking.
On a computer
- Look: drag with the mouse.
- Move: W A S D or the arrow keys, or a gamepad's left stick.
- Interact: click, Space, or a gamepad button.
In a VR headset or AR phone
On a headset, look by moving your head and move with the controller's stick. On an AR-capable phone, point at a flat surface and tap to place the scene, then walk around it. The setup screen and ⚙ button appear in these modes only when your browser supports overlays inside the session.
What does “Reduce motion” do?
It softens movement effects that can make some people uncomfortable. It's remembered on your device and can be switched from the button at the bottom-left while in a world.
Use another device as your controller
How do I use my computer's keyboard and mouse with my phone?
On some iPhones a paired Bluetooth keyboard or mouse isn't passed through to web pages, so it can't be detected. Use the computer as the controller instead. It works through our server, so the two devices don't need to be on the same network.
- On the phone, in the setup, choose Another device and tap Test it. You'll see a 5-character code.
- Tap Send link… to send yourself the link, or on your computer open
aetherbound.online/pair.htmland type the code. - Click Join, then Click to start, and press W. The phone shows a check mark.
Keep the phone awake while you do this. A paired controller needs a new code each time you open the world. To use it later, open the ⚙ on the phone and choose Another device again.
Can a second phone be the controller?
Yes. Open the same pairing page on the second phone and enter the code. It shows an on-screen stick for moving and buttons for interact and jump.
Troubleshooting
I updated but still see the old version, or something behaves oddly
Installed copies update themselves, but an old copy can stick around.
- Installed app: close it completely and reopen it, twice if needed.
- Still old on iPhone: Settings → Apps → Safari → Advanced → Website Data, remove
aetherbound.online, then reopen. Or delete the home-screen icon, open the site in Safari, and add it to the home screen again. - On a computer: hard-reload with Ctrl+Shift+R (⌘+Shift+R on a Mac), or open a private window.
The world looks sideways or “front” is the wrong direction
Hold your phone in landscape. If the interesting part isn't in front when you enter, tap the ⚙, press Recenter while facing where you want “front” to be, or move the look sliders. This is remembered for every world.
Nothing happens when I turn my phone (iPhone)
iPhones ask permission for motion sensors, and only when you tap Enter. If you tapped Don't Allow, close the app fully, reopen it and allow Motion & Orientation when asked. Until then you can drag the screen to look.
My keyboard or mouse isn't detected on iPhone
On some iPhone setups a paired keyboard or mouse isn't passed through to web pages, so the test can't see it. It isn't a fault with your keyboard. Choose Another device in the setup and use a computer's keyboard instead (see above).
My gamepad isn't detected
Pair it in your device's Bluetooth settings first, turn it on, then press any button while the setup is waiting. Some browsers only notice a gamepad after a button press.
Pairing another device is stuck on “Waiting…”, or the join fails
- Check the code, including letters versus digits. It can't contain 0, 1, O or I.
- Reload the pairing page with Ctrl+Shift+R, or use a private window, so you don't have an old copy.
- Keep the phone awake and on the setup screen. If it went to sleep, tap Choose a different one then Test it for a new code.
- Both devices must be online. The controller may run with a short delay on some networks.
Camera gestures (Cardboard) don't work
They need permission to use the rear camera. Allow it when asked, and make sure your viewer has a camera opening. Gestures are only meant for the Cardboard view.
It's stuck on loading, or a black screen
- Check your connection, then reload.
- Close other heavy tabs and try again. Worlds are drawn on your device.
- Try another browser if you can. If it keeps happening, email us the device, browser, and what you were opening.
The on-screen buttons vanished
They fade when idle. Touch the screen, move the mouse, or press a key to bring them back.
I can't sign in, or I'm not sure what happened to my credits
Your account page shows your balance and history. A generation that fails never uses a credit. If something looks wrong, email us with the email you signed up with.

Thank you
To the open-source projects above, and to everyone who tested early builds on real phones, headsets and Cardboard viewers and told us what broke.
Coming October 10th 2026
Put me inside a world: Ultra Realistic (Beta)
Describe a place and get a photoreal, video-generated world instead of the stylised code-built ones. It uses credits: 1 for standard quality, 3 for high. Your text prompt is sent to our rendering pipeline (Anthropic's Claude to compile it, then a video-generation provider).
Put me back in my childhood (Experimental)
Give us one old photo and we rebuild the room around it so you can walk back in. Your photo is deleted the moment the room is built, and isn't kept, used for training, or reused for anything else. You can see a preview on the childhood page.
See Pricing for the current credit costs and Privacy for how each feature handles your data.
